وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا عَبَدْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍۢ نَّحْنُ وَلَآ ءَابَآؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍۢ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ فَهَلْ عَلَى ٱلرُّسُلِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ﴿16:35﴾

"அல்லாஹ் நாடியிருந்தால் அவனையன்றி வேறு எந்தப் பொருளையும், நாங்களோ, எங்களுடைய தந்தையர்களோ வணங்கியிருக்கமாட்டோம்; இன்னும் அவனுடைய கட்டளையின்றி எப்பொருளையும் (ஆகாதவை யென்று) விலக்கி வைத்திருக்கவும் மாட்டோம்" என்று முஷ்ரிக்குகள் கூறுகின்றனர். இப்படித்தான் இவர்களுக்கு முன்னர் இருந்தவர்களும் செய்தார்கள்; எனவே (நம்) தூதர்களுக்குத் (தம் தூதுவத்தைத்) தெளிவாக அறிவிப்பதைத் தவிர வேறு ஏதாவது பொறுப்புண்டா?
